Cadbury's Heroes Cupcakes

Heya,

When I was little I was always criticised for my preference in chocolate. My parents thought they had brought me up as a true Brit, but this was not the case, as my chocolate of choice was always a HERSHEYS cookie and cream bar. They felt let down by the idea I wasn't as much of a Cadburys lover as they were and were horrified that I would always choose the delightful American chocolate bar at the newsagents counter. As I've grown older, although I still love white chocolate, I have grown to love Cadburys and love baking with its sweet yet rich flavour. A Cadbury's heroes tin never lasts long in our house as by the time my parents, my brother and I have taken our selections of goodies there are normally only cream eggs left if any at all. Therefore, when making these wonderful cupcakes I often resort to either using celebrations or simply buying a tin of heroes and hiding them! This cupcake recipe is the perfect blend between, sweet, chocolatey and rich with the hero at the top of the icing like the star on a Christmas tree- the finishing touch to make it perfect. The simple piping technique is super effective and makes the cupcakes look more professional than from a bakery. I hope you love this recipe as much as I love dinky deckers in a Cadbury's Heroes Tin!

Here is my recipe for Cadbury's Heroes Cupcakes:

Ingredients: (Makes 12)

  • 170g White Self Rising Flour
  • 30g Cadbury's Hot Chocolate Powder
  • 220g Butter, softened
  • 175g Caster Sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1tsp Vanilla/Almond Extract
  • 220g Butter, softened
  • 350g Icing Sugar
  • 1tbs Cadbury's Hot Chocolate Powder
  • 180g Cadbury's Dairy Milk Bar, melted
  • 12 Cadbury's Heroes, to decorate

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 175’c, gas mark 4
  2. Line a cupcake tray with 12 cupcake cases
  3. In a small bowl, mix the flour and hot chocolate powder
  4. In a separate larger bowl, cream together the butter and sugar
  5. Add the eggs and vanilla and continue to mix
  6. Pour the flour mixture into the butter mixture and mix until fully combined
  7. Spoon the mixture evenly into the 12 cases
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes
  9. To make the icing, using an electric whisk, whisk up the butter and melted chocolate
  10. add in the hot chocolate powder and icing sugar and continue to mix until a thick icing forms - it should be thick enough so that you can hold the bowl above your head and the icing doesn't drop on you!
  11. If too dry, add milk and if too wet add more icing sugar
  12. When the cupcakes are fully cooled, using a 2D end piping nozzle (this looks like a flat flower) pipe the icing onto the cakes- place the nozzle on the centre of the cupcake and squeeze but don't move the nozzle and a swirl should form!
  13. Place a Cadbury's Hero (or similar sized chocolate) on top of each cake centre
  14. Enjoy!!
