My go-to Smoothie Bowl
Heya,
Despite always being freezing, I love to have cold breakfasts. I would always opt for iced coffee over normal as well as overnight oats over baked oats hence why I LOVE smoothie bowls. My smoothie bowl recipe is something I like to keep relatively simple as I prefer to save the flavour for the toppings. As well as berries and yoghurt (coconut of course!) I like more unusual toppings such as cacao nibs to give it that chocolatey taste with being overpoweringly sweet. In terms of the actual smoothie bowl I, surprisingly, don’t use any ingredients that are too out there. I have seen countless recipes with amazing looking smoothie bowls made with wacky brand protein powders and “spirulina” powder. It took me a few goes to perfect this recipe and I came to the conclusion that in order to get the smoothie creamy but not too liquid like you need yoghurt and banana and then your favourite frozen fruit- mine being mango! Whilst using normal fruit and berries does work, you don’t get as good a texture nor flavour therefore I would definitely recommend either buying frozen fruit or freezing them beforehand as it enhances both the flavour and texture distinguishing a perfect difference between a smoothie and a smoothie bowl (very scientific!)
Here is my recipe for My go-to Smoothie Bowl:
Ingredients: (serves 1)
The Base:
- 1 Banana
- A handful of Ice
- 30g Frozen Berries
- 30g Frozen Mango
- 30g Coconut Yoghurt
The toppings:
- Cereal (I use Cheerios)
- Berries
- Apple, sliced
- Coconut Yoghurt
- Cacao Nibs
- Goji Berries
Method:
- In a blender, I use a Vitamix, chuck in your ice, banana and yoghurt and blend on high for 30 seconds
- Add your frozen fruit and continue to blend until smooth – patience is key
- Pour your creamy mixture into a bowl and serve with toppings of your choice
- Enjoy!!
